Dear PS192 Community,
Walk through our halls, visit our website, or attend any school event, and you are sure to run into our beloved mascots, Leo the Lion and Lia the Lioness. They are the cheerful faces of our "pride." But have you ever stopped to wonder why the majestic lion is the symbol of The School of Joyful Learning?
It is not just because they are strong or fast. We chose the lion because these magnificent creatures embody the very essence of our three core values: Justice, Honor, and Self-Discipline.
I want to share a moment to reflect on what our students—our little lions—can learn from this powerful symbol:
🦁 The Lion and Justice
In the wild, a lion protects its pride. True strength isn’t about overpowering others; it is about using your power to protect and uplift your community. At PS192, justice means we stand up for what is right, we ensure fairness for every student, and we look out for one another.
🦁 The Lion and Honor
Lions carry themselves with a natural nobility. Honor is about having integrity—doing the right thing even when no one is watching. It means being honest, respecting yourself, and respecting the diverse "pride" that makes up our school community.
🦁 The Lion and Self-Discipline
While lions are incredibly powerful, their success depends on patience and focus. A lion doesn’t charge recklessly; it waits for the perfect moment. Self-discipline is that quiet inner strength. It is the ability of our students to focus on their goals, manage their actions, and make choices that lead to joyful learning.
When you see Leo and Lia, remember that they are more than just mascots. They are a daily reminder to carry ourselves with Justice, act with Honor, and grow through Self-Discipline.
Let's hear the PS192 pride roar!
With pride and gratitude,
Ms. Hilduara Abreu
